Although they are so easy to grow that they are almost considered foolproof, they dislike being disturbed once they are in the ground. In fact, I am tempted to say there is no really good time to transplant them.
However, if you must move them, then it should be done during their dormant season, which is in the summer or while they are actually in bloom. When replanting, set the top of the bulb even with the soil surface. Once disturbed, it may take three or four years until they begin to bloom again, so be sure to allow enough space that they can remain uncrowded and undisturbed for many years to come.
